Designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1991
before the Ryder Cup Matches, The Ocean
Course gained instant notoriety as the of the
most dramatic "War by the Shore," a battle
decided literally by the final putt of Sunday's
final match. After hosting many other
prestigious events between 1991 and the
present, The Ocean Course once again took
center stage of the golfing world when it
hosted the 2012 PGA Championship. This was
the first time one of golf's majors has been
contested in South Carolina. Rory McIlroy took
home the title, breaking Jack Nicklaus' mark for
the largest margin of victory in the PGA.
