KIAWAH ISLAND, South Carolina (Feb. 26, 2007) -- Doug Clapp of Walpole, Mass.
scored an ace today at Osprey Point, helping he and his partner
Daniel Russo of Savannah, Georgia to a spot alone at the top of the championship
division leaderboard with one round left to play in the amateurgolf.com Kiawah
Island Two Man Championship. Clapp, who used a 7-iron to ace the 15th hole at
Osprey Point, called his partner Daniel Russo his good luck charm.
"This was my third career hole-in-one, and my second playing with Dan," said
Clapp after the round.
The Clapp-Russo team stands at 4-under 140, giving them a narrow one-stroke margin
over two teams
from Georgia and the midwestern team of Tom Studer (Chicago, IL) and Todd Dickinson
(Rochester, MI) who shot the lowest round of the day on Monday, a 66.
In the
Net division, brothers Don and Jeff Corken of Kentucky are at 5-under 139, good
for a one stroke lead over Lacy Hayes of North Carolina and Ernest Humphreys
of Rhode Island. The Hayes-Humphreys team posted a 6-under-par 66, a score that
was matched by Californians Mike Casey and Bob Paulson.
Tuesday's final round will be contested at the famed Ocean Course, which was
recently ranked the toughest course in the U.S.
Second round results from the amateurgolf.com Kiawah Island Two Man follow. Today's
round was played at the Tom Fazio-designed Osprey Point Golf Course.
