amateurgolf.com Bay Regional: Second Rd Results
- 3 stroke lead for Philippine Natl team member
BERKELEY, Calif. (August 4, 2007) -- The Philippine National golf team
continues to dominate the field at the amateurgolf.com Bay Regional, but several
players who live a bit closer to Tilden Park are within striking distance of
leader Jay Bayron -- who the coach described as their top player.
Bayron fired a nearly flawless 65, going out in 32 and coming home in 33 with
no bogeys on the day. He holds a three stroke lead over his team mate Ferdinand
Aunzo, who followed his first round 66 with a 73 to stand at 1-under 139. Another
stroke back is Anthony Fernando of the Philippines, and one more player from
their team (Michael Alejandro) stands at 141.
Making the biggest move up the leaderboard among local amateurs was Chris Moreno-Hunt,
a resident of Berkeley who attends Pomona-Pitzer college (team mascot the extinct
Sage Hen) who equaled his Tilden-best with a 2-under 68 for a 142 total. All
good rounds have a good break somewhere, and Moreno-Hunt found his on the tough
first hole, dubbed the "Famed West Face" by the East Bay Regional Parks District.
His second shot was pulled left, leaving him in tall grass near the bushes.
"I hacked one out of there, straight up in the air," said Moreno-Hunt. "It
plopped down a foot from the cup and I got out with a par."
Scott
Hardy, the recent NCGA Public Links champ and coach of the St. Mary's College
golf team stands at 141.
The 36-hole cut fell at 8-over 148.
In the Net Division,
Al Richardson of Santa Clara and Greg Davidson of Rocklin are tied for the
lead at 141. Richardson is the recent winner of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational
contest, and his set of Bridgestone clubs will be presented to him after Sunday's
round. He would like to pick up a trophy to go along with them... The Net Division
cut fell at 146.
The Senior Division was concluded today with Jim Williams of Orinda defending
his title by one stroke over Jay Guerin of Alameda.
The final round will be played on Sunday starting at 8:09am.
