Jack Jerge knew he needed to finish strong to put himself in contention at the 2024 Grapevine Amateur at Silverado Country Club & Resort, the North Course, in Napa, Calif.
The Pleasant Hill, Calif., just that, as he birdied four of his last five holes, including his last three, to shoot a final round 5-under 67 to pull away from the field and win by two shots.
Jerge, a sophomore on the USC golf team, shot 69 and 70 in rounds one and two to put him at 5-under overall through the first two rounds. Shaojun Luo of China finished in solo second place at 8-under. He also finished in second place at last week’s Coachella Amateur.
Rain and cool weather challenged the golfers the first few days at Silverado, while the final round showed more sun and dry, windless conditions.
“It’s always wet here every year. It’s my fourth time coming here," Jerge said. "So, kind of knew what to expect coming into the week. And stayed patient. I had a bunch of mistakes in the first and second rounds. Was able to clean that up today and was able to finish strong and come out with the win.”
Hartej Grewal of Pleasanton, Calif., and Edan Cui of Atherton, Calif., finished another shot back at 7-under to finish T3.
