Westchester Wins Stoddard Trophy
Westchester beat Long Island and New Jersey on Thursday, August 12th in the 84th Stoddard Trophy competition, hosted by Westchester this year and held at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY. Westchester’s 26 points ran away with the competition; New Jersey had 15.5 points and Long Island had12.5. Long Island won last year, at The Ridge at Back Brook, in Ringoes, NJ.
The Westchester team featured a large group of very strong players who have won Met area amateur events. Westchester received points from every member of its 13 man team, and five of their players won every one of the four points each of them contested.
The venue was superb. The A.W. Tillinghast design is big and brawny, and is considered among his best courses; this year it has already hosted the Met Amateur Championship.
