Senior Temple Cup: Rice, Earsley win by two
LUFKIN, Texas (April 6, 2008)--Mike Rice and Steve Earsley emerged from a crowded leaderboard with a 65 on Day 2 of the Senior Temple Cup to finish at 12-under-par 132, good for a two-stroke victory. The event was shortened to three days of play after rain washed out Friday's first round at Crown Colony Country Club.
Two teams were tied for second at 134, Jim Hays and Steven Hakes along with Eddie Lyons and John Pigg.
The event typically draws some of the top senior amateurs in the country, this year being no exception.
Rice, a Houston resident, finished 2007 ranked 13th in the amateurgolf.com - Bridgestone Golf Player Rankings on the strength of a victory at the Sunnehanna Senior and top-10 finishes in four other senior majors.
Earsley, of Hobe Sound, Fla., finished tied for 32nd, with a runner-up finish in the Adams Golf Senior as his best result.
Defending champions Jerry Hudgins and Jimmy Chapman carded back-to-back 69's and finished tied for sixth.
