Turk catches fire at Las Vegas Sr City, wins with final-round 63
Las Vegas Golf Club
John Turk claimed the Las Vegas City Senior title on Friday with a world-class comeback at Las Vegas Golf Club. Turk had opened with 75 and was six shots off the pace after the first round. On Friday, he caught fire.
Turk began the day with three birdies in his first four holes. He added a fourth at No. 9 to turn in 4-under 32. Two more birdies followed at Nos. 11 and 13, then for Turk’s final stunt, he logged an eagle at the par-5 15th backed up by a birdie on No. 16. Turk closed the day with a 63 that moved him to 6 under for the tournament, and one ahead of runner-up Rich Morrison.
Morrison had rounds of 70-69, but it was no match for Turk, considering the tear he was on.
Two men, Jim Licausi and Douglas Pool, tied for third at 4 under. Pool had been the first-round leader with 69.
In the silver division, Frank Ellenburg logged rounds of 71-72 for a 1-under total that left him two shots ahead of runner-up Steven Fink.
