KIAWAH ISLAND, South Carolina (February 25, 2007) -- Teams from the colder parts of the U.S. faired well in the opening round of the 2nd amateurgolf.com Kiawah Island Two Man Championship today. Tom Leonard and Tom Monahan from New Hampshire are tied for the Championship division lead with a team which has one of its members (Doug Clapp of Walpole, Mass.) sharing the same climate disadvantage.

Shaking off the early season rust can show up in some interesting scorecards.

"Six birdies and an eagle out there today, and we finish two-under," lamented Doug Clapp in recounting his team's round of 70. "We were Phil Mickelson out there."

Clapp's partner, Dan Russo is the only member of the two leading teams who plays golf year-round as he lives in nearby Savannah, Georgia.

In the Net Division, brothers Don and Jeff Corken took a break from the steel company they run in Kentucky to make the trip for the second year in a row, and they stand alone at the top of the leaderboard after a 1-under 71. Four teams are tied at 73, two strokes back.
