The very popular Bing Maloney Golf Course was opened in 1952 and is located just 10 minutes from downtown by heading south on Interstate 5. See map for Directions. Bing Maloney Golf Course was designed by Michael "Mac" McDonaugh who was part of the construction crew who built Cypress Point and the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks. After "Mac" completed the work at Haggin Oaks he remained as its Green Superintendent and later built the Bing Maloney and Arcade Creek Golf Courses for the City of Sacramento. The golf course was constructed by Carter Construction Company, exclusive of the land, for only $250,000 with mostly federal and state funds. Later, the clubhouse was completed for the total cost of $54,321. Funds were not needed from the Golf Division or City to complete the golf course. Over the years Bing Maloney has matured into a very fine golf course with its easy to walk terrain and its array of giant trees that separate its fairways.
