Mexican National Amateur: Vazquez goes wire-to-wire for the win
GUADALAJARA, Mexico (June 10, 2012) -- Sebastián Vázquez, Mexico City, posted a 69, his fourth round under par, to win the Mexican National Amateur Championship at Guadalajara Country Club by four strokes over Canadian Adam Svensson.
"I'm very happy and satisfied with the results," commented Vázquez after the round. "Without a doubt this the best result of the year and the truth is it is an honor."
With the win Vázquez will recieve an exemption through qualifying to play in the U.S. Amateur.
"I qualified last year but failed to advance to match play. But this year I have more experience and I hope to have better results," said Vázquez.
Canadian Adam Svensson posted 65, the low round of the day and of the tournament finished in second place alone.
"I'm very happy ... it is an incredible result, " said Svensson. "I want to thank the Mexican Federation for their organization of the event and the Guadalajara Country Club. The course conditions were the best I have ever played."
In the pairs competition, the team representing Mexico City ran away with the title. Sebastián Vázquez and partner Carlos Ortiz carded 419, 13-under par, while the Canadian team of Adam Svensson and Riley Fleming posted 2-over-par, 432 and finished in second place.
