Virginia tops West Virginia in Team Matches
ROANOKE, VA (April 29, 2012) -- After a triumphant day of matches yesterday at the historic WV-VA Team Matches, team West Virginia came up short during today’s rounds of singles matches, losing by Virginia, 45.5-38.5.
Out of today’s 14 matches, just five were won by West Virginia players, sealing their fate for this year’s matches.
Players are selected for the West Virginia team based on the previous year’s Player of the Year points standings. This year, the members of the 2012 team will move on to compete for the WV Open, WV Amateur, WV Mid-Amateur and WV Senior Amateur Championships, to name a few.
After the first day of play, West Virginia held the lead over Virginia, 24.5-17.5. During today’s single matches, Virginia’s score doubled that of West Virginia. For more information on the WV-VA Team Matches, including its history, team members, 2012 match standings and more, visit www.wvga.org.
