Meichtry wins Long Beach Open, Schauffele low am
LONG BEACH, CALIF (July 31, 2011) -- Eric Meichtry of Murrieta fired a final round 66 to win the 2011 Long Beach Open by two strokes over a quartet of players.

Meichtry posted a total of 72-64-68-66--270.

San Diego's Xander Schuaffele was the low amateur with scores of 70-71-65-69--275 to tie for ninth place.

"It was a little more stress-free for me," said Schauffele. "I wasn't in the money; I was just trying to go as low as possible."

Schauffele, reigning CIF champion, will attend Long Beach State in the Fall

Amateur Issei Suenaga from Long Beach finished in a tie for 28th place with rounds of 71-68-70-70--279.

Other amateurs that made the cut included Bruce Doucett (69-74-70-75--288), Graham Brockington (73-66-76-74--289), Andrew Morgan (72-67-72-78--289), and Sephen Edman (73-69-74-75--291).

ABOUT THE Long Beach Open

Open to men professional golfers and 9 amateurs that have earned exemptions through the Long Beach Golf Festival’s qualification standards. Format is 72 holes of aggregate stroke play, with a 36-hole cut to the low 60 professionals and ties, as well as the low 6 amateurs and ties. If such a cut includes more than 70 professionals, there will also be a 54-hole cut.
