FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Jan. 22, 2011) -- A week after falling short in a charge for the Women’s South Atlantic Amateur title, Charley Hull emerged victorious at the Ione D. Jones/Doherty Championship. Hull, a 14-year-old from England, defeated Kyle Roig in the final match, 2 and 1, at Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Hull earned the third seed on the match-play bracket with a 2-over 74 in stroke-play qualifying. She defeated Sally champion Jaye Marie Green in the semifinals, 1 up, to reach the final match. Roig, the 2010 Harder Hall champion who will play for UCLA in the fall, moved through the bracket as the top seed.
The Jones/Doherty was Hull’s final stop on the Florida Orange Blosson Circuit before she heads home to England. She finished 12th at the first event, the Harder Hall. Hull plays out of Woburn Golf Club in Milton Keynes, England.
