BERKELEY, Calif. (Aug 2, 2009) --With a four shot lead starting the day it was the disaster saving bogey on the 13th that saved Randy Haag's Sunday, allowing him to win a record seventh Bay Regional Championship.

After hitting a good tee-shot and trying to lay-up with a rescue club, it took every bit of Haag's short game creativity to get away with a bogey. Haag's layup shot wound up on the hill to the right in ankle-high weeds and he was forced to hack it out.

"I was lucky to make bogey and it saved the round," he said.

Getting up and down for bogey kept his lead over Andrew Biggadike. Biggadike would end up alone in second after shooting 142 against Haag's 138 total.

Joanne Lee, who has played to US Women's Opens, was the only player under par both days shooting rounds of 70-69=139 to finish at 3-under on the tournament over the par 71 layout.

Jim Williams won the small Senior Division; his 2-over par total of 144 also tied him for 3rd overall. (Seniors played the same tees as Championship players.)

In the Net Division, James Murphy won a card playoff over Patrick McKenna. Both players carded 1-under par totals of 141.

Tournament Notes:

- Special thanks to the entire staff of Tilden Park Golf Course for hosting us again this year

- In Memoriam: amateurgolf.com lost a great friend and player when James Grensted passed away in June. He was planning on playing this event, and his name was kept on the scoreboard as a tribute. James played in over twenty amateurgolf.com events, winning two of them and coming in 2nd several times. He posted a personal best 69 at Metropolitan Golf Links during the Metropolitan Amateur.

Several of Jim's friends have come together to donate funds for a perpetual trophy and it was announced that each year the points leader among Net division players will win the James Grensted Memorial trophy. He will not be forgotten.
