PREVIEW: PGA Tour Q-School First Stage Qualifying continues this week

With Q-School Prequalifying now in the rearview mirror, dozens of amateurs will see the competition tighten as they join exempt professionals and amateurs in the First Stage of Q-School.

The next five of 13 First Stage qualifiers tee off on Tuesday, October 15, in Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Texas. 19 amateurs are spread out across those five locations, including several mid-amateurs who are hoping to gain some type of Tour status while protecting their amateur careers by keeping the (a) behind their names.

Here are the amateurs we will be watching this week. The links below provide information about each qualifier (including scoreboards).


FLORIDA - THE PRESERVE AT IRONHORSE

Blades Brown (a) - Nashville, Tenn. -- view profile 

Brown is one of the top junior golfers in the country. This year, he made the cut at a PGA Tour event, the round of 16 at the Western Amateur, and the final 32 of the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Quinn Croker (a) - Australia -- view profile

Croker won the 2024 Australian Men's Amateur and the 2024 Queensland Amateur. He finished in the round of 32 of the North & South Amateur and in solo second place at the Southern Amateur to Wenyi Ding. 

Gavin Clements (a) - Franklin, Tenn. -- view profile

Clements just finished his time at Middle Tennessee State, where in 2024, he finished the year with a 74.5 stroke average and was fifth on the team in birdies with 51 and second in eagles with three.

Nathan Piatt (a) - Pittsburgh, Pa. -- view profile

Piatt just graduated from Radford University and finished in solo sixth place in the 2023 Eastern Amateur and T2 at the 2022 Pennsylvania Amateur.

Max Brenchley (a) - Alpine, Ut. -- view profile

The recent BYU graduate is looking to advance through the first stage after qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club. In high school, he won three state championships and finished T3 at the WCC conference championships. 

Anthony Garcia (a) - Miami, Fla.

The former LaSalle Explorer performed well in his time in college and now turns his attention to Q-School and making it through the first stage of qualifying.

Tom Gueant (a) - France --view profile

The golfer from France made the round of 64 at the 2023 British Amateur and graduated from Oregon in 2021-22. He won the 2019 British Boys Amateur Championship.

Peter Fountain (a) - Raleigh, N.C. -- view profile

The North Carolina graduate was a two-time All-ACC, first-team All-America in 2021, No. 5 in career stroke average and holds the lowest single-season stroke average ever by a Tar Heel. He was one of two Tar Heels with Austin Greaser to start on four consecutive teams that finished in the top five in NCAA Championship play and was only the second time in ACC history a team finished in the top five in four straight NCAA Championships.

Jake Hall (a) - Knoxville, Tenn. -- view profile

Hall won the 2023 Tennessee Amateur with a 9-under 61 final round to win by four shots and set the course record. The former Tennessee golfer finished T7 at the 2024 SEC Championship and T9 at the 2024 Pacific Coast Amateur.

Kelvin Si (a) - San Diego, Calif. -- view profile

Si finished in solo 12th place at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Amateur and T9 at the 2024 El Macero Classic. The San Diego gradaute was named to the 2022-2023 All-WCC Honorable Mention team and 2022-2023 WCC Golf All-Academic Team.

Bastien Amat (a) - France -- view profile

The New Mexico graduate won the 2024 John Burns Intercollegiate and the 2022 Wolf Pack Classic. He finished in the final 16 of the 2024 U.S. Amateur and T22 at the 2024 European Amateur. 

Christopher Chomyn (a) - Irvine, Calif. -- view profile

The senior at Stanislaus State was the 2024 Stan State Male Athlete of the Year and was named to PING/GCAA All-West Region First Team. He was also named to All-CCAA First Team, was two-time CCAA Golfer of the Week and for the second year in a row, named to CCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.

Sam Lape (a) - Atlanta, Ga. -- view profile

The Furman and USC graduate recorded a final-round 64 to finish second, the highest regional finish in Furman men's golf history, at the NCAA Salem Regional and claim the region's individual bid to the championship and became the first Paladin to compete at the NCAA Championship since 2001.

The Long Beach State senior was 2024 First Team All-Big West, 2021 Big West Conference Tri-Freshman of the Year, and 2021 Big West Conference All-First Team. He also won the 2021 Southern California Amateur.

Winston Wang (a) - Coto De Caza, Calif. -- view profile

Wang finished T19 at the 2023 Agave Amateur and now will look to move onto the second stage of Q-School.

Benton Weinberg (a) - Bethesda, MD. -- view profile

Weinberg made the quarterfinals of the 2023 and 2024 Maryland State Amateur. The Iowa graduate also finished in solo second place and T6 at the 2023 and 2024 Middle Atlantic Amateur.

Joaquin Luduena (a) - Argentina -- view profile

The talented golfer from Argentina finished T21 at the South American Amateur and T8 at the Latin America Amateur. He also won the 2023 Argentine Amateur as the medalist.

Vicente Marzilio (a) - Irving, Tex. -- view profile

Marzilio made the match play portion of the 2023 U.S. Amateur. The North Texas and Texas Tech graduate enjoyed a stellar collegiate career, playing in all eleven tournaments for North Texas in 2022-23 and played as an individual in the NCAA Norman Regional while posting a team-best 72.08 scoring average. His career average of 72.47 leads the North Texas program and he was named to the First Team of the All-Conference USA team three straight years.

The former Texas Longhorn and SMU Mustang earned the 2023-24 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors along with PING All-Central Region team accolades and claimed a spot on the 10-person All-Big 12 Team.

Bebich played for Washington State University, enjoying a standout collegiate career with multiple top finishes, including a runner-up at the 2023 Pacific Invitational. He was also named the 2023-24 Pac-12 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, highlighting his academic and athletic balance. Bebich has also competed in notable events like the U.S. Amateur, qualifying in 2022.

He shot rounds of 76-77-75-69 to finish 9-over.

Mateo Fuenmayor (a) - Beaverton, OR -- view profile>
Fuenmayor, who played for Oregon State, grew as a player by lowering his scoring average substantially during his collegiate career. In 2023/2024 for the Beavers, he fnished with two rounds under par five times: the Husky Invitational, Cal Poly Invitational, Amer Ari Invitational, The Prestige, and the Redhawk Invitational and shot a low round of 66 at The Oregon State Invitational.

He shot rounds of 80-76-74-70 to finish 12-over.

Matthew Manganello (a) - Las Vegas, NV -- view profile>
Manganello played for Fresno State, where in 2022/2023 he became the first Bulldog to earn two medalist honors in the same season since Nick Watney in 2002 with wins at the Saint Mary's Invitational and the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

He shot rounds of 74-71-67-76 to finish even par.

Ben Warian (a) - Stillwater, MN -- view profile>
Warian excelled as a member of the University of Minnesota Gophers golf team, and upon graduation in May of 2024 he won a big event on the amateur golf summer circuit in June at the Sunnehanna Amateur. He came out firing on all cylinders in round one at Southern Dunes, posting a 66 to stand in second position. 

Warian shot rounds of 66-73-69-70 to finish 10-under and qualify for the second stage.

Neuheisel is a standout amateur golfer who won the 98th Arizona Amateur Championship in 2022. He also earned high finishes in several other prestigious events, such as a runner-up at the Grapevine Amateur and the Stocker Cup. Neuheisel has been competitive at the national level, including reaching the quarterfinals of the California Amateur.

Neuheisel shot rounds of 72-76-70-70 to finish 4-over.

Partridge is a notable UK-based golfer who played for Hutchinson Community College before transferring to University of San Francisco. A pivotal moment in his career came in the summer of 2023 when he secured the Tillman Trophy, securing full status on the Clutch Pro Tour for 2025. This tour comprises 24 events, culminating in the top 5 players earning a coveted Challenge Tour card.

He shot rounds of 80-73-68-70 to shoot 7-over.
