2024 U.S. Open Local Qualifying Roundup
The USGA has finished local qualifying for the 127th U.S. Open Championship from June 13 to June 16, 2024, at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (Course No.2), Village of Pinehurst, NC.

There were 109 qualifying sites in 2024.

Local qualifying, comprised of an 18-hole round, took place at 109 sites across 44 states and Canada from April 22 to May 14. Players who advanced from local qualifying will join exempt players in final qualifying, conducted over 36 holes at 13 sites – 10 in the U.S., one in England, one in Canada, and one in Japan.

Last year, Wyndham Clark cemented his name in the history books, winning the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, Los Angeles, Calif.

Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt finished as the low amateur. Sargent is the No. 1 ranked player in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.

Palmer Golf Course, Palmer, Alaska

In the final local qualifying site, amateur Andrew Ryland shot 1-over 73 to earn the lone qualifying spot in the 12-man field by one shot over fellow amateur Chance Wilson. Wilson is the first alternate, and Travis Evans is the second alternate.

Otto Black shot an impressive 8-under 64 to advance as the medalist by two shots. He recorded an eagle and seven birdies. Amateurs Noah Kumar, Jacob Penny, and Abbie Valentine earned qualifying spots along with Kyle Rodes. Rodes moved on in a 2-for-1 playoff over Genki Sadato. Sadato and Lorenzo Rodriguez are the first and second alternates.

Amateur Wyatt Brook from Canada and Sam Renner, a sophomore from Oregon attending Washington State, carded matching 4-under 66 scores to earn co-medalist honors at the qualifier held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Washington. Matt McGann, a redshirt junior at Idaho, shot a 67 for a third-place finish, followed by Jason Alexander with a 68, securing the final spot from the qualifier. Amateur Bennett Masterson from Rhode Island, who has participated in several Minor League Golf Tour events, carded a 5-under 67, achieving co-medalist honors with Eric Barlow of Massachusetts. Rhode Island senior Mike Caparco secured a solo third-place finish with a 5-under 68.

Following closely behind, Carter Nunez, a Northeastern graduate, and Owen Quinn survived the 3-for-2 playoff, securing the final two spots available from the qualifier. Amateur Bobby Leopold and Brendon Ray stand as the two alternates.

Billy Padst finished as the medalist after shooting a round of 3-under 68, even with a double bogey on the final hole. He recorded five birdies on his first nine holes to jump out in front. David Powers finished in second place at 2-under, and amateur Logan Paczewski defeated Andrew Turner in a 2-for-1 playoff to earn the third qualifying spot. Turner is the first alternate, and David Mecca won a 7-for-1 playoff to earn the second alternate spot.

Amateur Shawn Coultoff blitzed the field at Shingle Creek Golf Club by five shots after an impressive 7-under 65 that consisted of two eagles. The other four qualifying spots all tied at T2 at 2-under with Jesus Montenegro, Anthony Amoroso, Jonah Leach, and Gabriel Leach.

Landry defeated Nick Leblanc in a playoff to get the final spot, while Leblanc is the first alternate and Matthew Johnson is the second alternate.

Gabriel Salvanera recorded two eagles and four birdies en route to shooting an impressive 7-under 65 and earning medalist honors, finishing two shots ahead of Jim Knous. Juan Diego Fernandez and Riley Wheeldon earned the final two qualifying spots. Conor Dore and Darren Fletcher are the first and second alternates.

Birmingham Country Club showed its teeth in this qualifier, with Drew Miller finishing as the medalist at even par. Miller recorded two birdies and two bogeys. 18-hole stroke play qualifier open to male amateurs with a handicap of 0.4 and below. Players who advance will get to choose their top three sectional qualifying sites. The number of qualifying spots will depend on the size of the field.
