South African Am Stroke Play: Gregor Graham and Ivan Verster take the halfway lead

A second-round 5-under 65 helped Gregor Graham of Scotland propel into a tie for the lead with Ivan Verster at 4-under at the halfway point in the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Mount Edgecombe Golf Club in Mount Edgecombe, South Africa.
Graham got off to a hot start, birding Holes No. 2, 4, 5, and 8 to get to 4-under through eight holes. He made a bogey on Holes No. 11 and 14, but birdies on 12, 16, and 17 got him to 5-under for the round and 4-under total.
Graham struggled in the first round, shooting 1-over 71.
Verster shot a second-round 3-under 67 after shooting a first-round 1-under 69. Verster got off to the opposite start of Graham, as he made bogeys on Holes No. 2 and 3, but he made five birdies over the next 15 holes to save the round.
It was a tough second day for the overnight leaders, as Jaden Deltel of South Africa shot a 1-over 71 to fall to T3 and 3-under, one shot back of the leaders, Sebastian Greenan of South Africa shot a 5-over 77 to fall to T16 at 1-over, and Jordan Burnand shot 6-over 78 to fall to T22 and 2-over.
Jean Pierre van der Watt of South Africa is T3 with Deltel at 3-under.
Altin van der Merwe of South Africa, the 2023 AGC Mid-Am Player of the Year, shot a second-round 2-under 68 to get to a 2-under total after an even-par 70 and is two shots back of the leaders.
Travis Proctor of South Africa, Keagan Crosbie of South Africa, and Vukasin Suturovic of Serbia are all T6 at 1-under.
There are seven golfers at T9 at even par and six golfers at T16 at 1-over.
The South African Amateur Championship is the premier amateur stroke play event in South Africa, with a field comprised of the best South African amateurs and a strong contingent of Europeans. It is a 72-hole stroke play championship with a cut after 36 holes.
