Purdue Fall Invitational: Host school Purdue wins by one shot

The Purdue Boilermakers secured a victory at the Purdue Fall Invitational with impressive rounds of 291-276-275 to 10-under and a team score of 842, narrowly edging out Illinois State, who posted scores of 277-283-283 to finish 9-under with a team score of 843 by just a single stroke.
The Boilermakers started slow but recovered 15 strokes in the second round.
In the final round, despite trailing Illinois State by 10 shots with nine holes left to play, Purdue mounted a huge comeback to win by one shot in the end.
All-American Herman Sekne made a pair of eagles, the second of which came as he holed out from the fairway on Hole No. 1, the Boilermakers played their final stretch in 8-under par, while the Redbirds played their stretch in 3-over par.
The victory is its second of the fall season, giving the Boilermakers two team titles in the fall season for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
VCU finished third, 10 strokes behind Illinois State at 1-over 853.
In the individual competition, Jackson Buchanan of Illinois and Valentin Peugnet of Illinois State emerged as co-medalists, each finishing with a total score of 9-under 204.
Buchanan entered the final round standing fourth, four strokes behind Peugnet, who held the 36-hole lead at 9-under with rounds of 68-69. Buchanan shot a final round of 4-under 67 against Peugnet’s even-par 71 to join him at the top of the leaderboard to share the co-medalist honors at the tournament.
Sekne led the way for the Boilermakers, finishing in solo third place at 7-under.
