O'Donnell stays hot with Phoenix City win
Sean O'Donnell won his second Phoenix City Championship on Sunday, shooting a final-round 2-under 70 in strong winds at Papago Park to come from four shots behind.
O'Donnell, who also won the the Phoenix City in 2016, lifted his second trophy in as many weeks. Last week, he erased a three-shot final-round deficit at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club to win the Arizona Stroke Play Championship.
His round of 70 at Papago Park was the only under-par round of the day in difficult scoring conditions. He jumped all seven players ahead of him for a two-shot win.
The first round was at Grand Canyon University GC, where O'Donnell started slowly with a 75. A 71 at Aguila GC got him back in contention, but it still required a special round to complete the comeback.
Brett Howard closed with a 75 to finish solo second at 3 over par, two shots back. Ryan Pelletier was third at 4 over. 36-hole leader Dylan Mattson finished in a tie for sixth at 6 over par. The defending champion Shankar Natarajan tied for 19th.
