Courington jumps to 3-shot lead at Kansas Mid-Amateur

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 15, 2018) – Wichita resident Jack Courington is on top after one round of the 30th Kansas Mid-Amateur Championship at Crestview Country Club. Courington posted a 4-under 68 in unseasonably cool temperatures on Monday, and immediately gave himself a three-shot cushion.
Courington’s only bogey came at No. 3. He fired off four consecutive birdies at Nos. 12-15, then added one more on No. 18 for his 68.
Courington played college golf for Missouri State. He was a U.S. Amateur qualifier in 2008 and won the Kansas Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2012 and again in 2015.
Elliot Soyez, Kit Grove and Corey Novascone are tied for second place and sit three shots behind Courington entering Tuesday's final round. No other golfers are below par after the first round.
Justice Valdivia is fifth at 1 over and three players are tied for sixth at 2 over including Alec Heinen, Joey Krsnich and Spencer Christian.
In addition to an overall competition, the tournament also features gross & net scoring within three age divisions.
