BERLIN, GERMANY (July 14, 2018) – The European Amateur Team Championship ended Saturday with a victory for Finland at the Nick Faldo-designed Sporting Club Berlin in Germany.
To win the title, Finland had to get past England in the final. It did that by a 5-2 margin. The Finnish team got big points early in the day from the foursomes teams of Matias Honkala and Aleski Myllymaki (2-and-1 victory) and Sami Valimaki and Veeti Mahonen (5-and-4 victory). Later in the afternoon, Finland won two singles matches and halved two. Only England’s Gian Marco Petrozzi,
who won the New South Wales Amateur in February, took a full point for his team when he defeated Valimaki.
This is Finland’s first European Team Championship title. England finished with the silver medal last year.
