Lindsey McCurdy Captures the Women's Southern Am

HOT SPRINGS, AR (June 16, 2017) -
Lindsey McCurdy claimed the 2017 Women’s Southern Amateur Championship Friday with a 1 up win over
Gabriela Coello. McCurdy became the 102nd WSGA Champion in the tournament that was contested this year at the Granada Course at Hot Springs Village, AR.
McCurdy, who is from Liberty Hill, TX, is a student at SMU. Coello, who plays at the University of Georgia, is from Winter Garden, FL.
McCurdy had captured Medalist honors in the Amateur Championship when she fired a qualifying round of 70 on Monday. “I am super happy with this win,” said McCurdy after her victory. “It is always fun when you win and this one is very special.”
McCurdy said she got off to a slow start and was 2 down at the turn. She began to make a move at #13 and was able to close out the match.
In the Amateur First Flight, Henderson State golfer Taylor Loeb defeated Junior Medalist Amy Zhang in a 19-hole match. Loeb, who hails from Maumelle, AR., was excited to get the win in her home state.
The 2018 Women's Southern Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships will be played June 11-15 at NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL.
