VIDEO: Ben Feld Wins the Philadelphia Mid-Amateur
Ben Feld of Huntingdon Valley Country Club wins his first GAP championship
BRYN MAWR, PA (May 25, 2017) - Ben Feld of Huntingdon Valley Country Club and Drexel University won the 34th Golf Association of Philadelphia Middle-Amateur Championship at Overbrook Golf Club.
Feld, who is the head men's golf coach at Drexel, entered the final round three shots behind overnight leader Stephen Dressel after a one-under 69. But Dressel could not get anything going all day, going birdieless and shooting a two-over 72.
With four holes to go it looked like Jeff Osberg's tournament to win. Osberg was three under for the day and five under for the tournament, but he lost three shots coming in including a double on the last hole to fall two shots short.
Feld made his move in the middle of the front nine, making three straight birdies starting at the fifth. Two more birdies at the short par-four thirteenth and seventeenth allowed him to take the lead as Osberg was backing up, and even a bogey at the last was enough to close out the win by two shots at four-under 136. Dressel, Osberg, and Chris Lange, Jr. all tied for second at 138.
Matthew Mattare and James Gillespie tied fifth at even-par 140.
