Byron Busse finishes as Low Am at Southern California Open

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA (March 23, 2017) -- Byron Busse finished as the low amateur at the Southern California Open hosted by the Eisenhower Course at Industry Hills Golf Club.

Busse used rounds of 73-73-71 to post 2-over and finish in a tie for 43rd. In Thursday's final round the La Habra, CA resident played a steady round of golf with one birdie on the par-3 9th and the rest pars.

Niels Andersen was the low amateur after the second round but he struggled in the final round and fell to 6-over where he tied with the final amateur to make the cut, Bahram Talle, in 53rd place.

Through two rounds at the Southern California Open hosted by the Eisenhower Course at Industry Hills Golf Club the low amateur is Niels Andersen.

Sitting at 2-under with one left to play, Andersen is currently tied for 18th and has put together rounds of 72-69 thus far. Andersen, a sophomore at Santa Barbra City College, played impressive golf on Wednesday birdieing three-times and bogeying once. The second round birdies came on the 5th, 11th and 16th holes.

Of the 31 amateurs in the field Andersen was one off just three to make the 3-over cut. The other two amateurs to reach the final round are Bahram Talle (T47; +2) and Byron Busse (T54; +3).

The current leader is professional Michael McCabe at 11-under. McCabe has posted scores of 65-67 and he will carry a two-stroke lead into the final round.

ABOUT THE Southern California Open

The Championship will be a 54 hole stroke play tournament contested over three days. Following the conclusion of 36 holes, the field will be cut to the Low 54 players for the final round. Championship is open to both Professionals and Amateurs. To enter the Championship field, participants must either qualify or meet one of exemptions.
