W. Australia Am: Fred Lee wins title
WEST AUSTRALIA, AUS (March 13, 2016)--It was a short day of work for the No. 4 seed Fred Lee who captured the Western Australian Amateur title. Lee defeated No. 10 Cooper Geddes 5-and-4 in the 36-hole final at Cottesloe Golf Club.
Lee burst onto the national scene last year winning the Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship as a 15 year-old last year. The teenager reached the finals following a 2-and-1 win in the semifinals over No. 16 Haydn Barron.
Lee, 16 years-old, has now won two national ranking titles in Australia after winning last years NT Amateur.
“I’m super happy with my result this week,” Lee told those in attendance following the round. “Tomorrow it’s back to study unfortunately. At the moment I just want to keep playing golf but I’ve got to mix it in with school work. This year, I’m planning on playing a few tournaments in America and Interstate Series and I’m looking forward to it.”
Tournament play began on Wednesday with the first of two stroke play rounds. Following the completion of day two the top-32 competitors advanced to the match play portion of the event.
