Dave Ryan
HOMEWOOD, Ill. — Taylorville's Dave Ryan will enter Friday's final round of the Illinois State Senior Amateur Championship at Ravisloe Country Club with a three-stroke lead after firing a 2-under 68 Thursday morning. Ryan carded five birdies, including three in a row on 12-14, en route to one of just two red numbers posted in the first two rounds.
Ryan, who also won the event in 2009 and 2013, enters Friday's final round with a chance to become the first player to win the Illinois State Senior three times. He can also become the second player to win the CDGA Senior and Illinois State Senior in the same year, joining Tom Miler's double in 2012.
Equaling Ryan's 68 was Glencoe's Ted Pecora, who bounced back from an opening-round 73 by moving to 1-over for the Championship, three shots behind Ryan. Defending champion Ed Whitaker shot a 2-over and sits T-3 at 3-over with Mark Esposito, who shot an even-par 70 in Round 2.
Low Super Senior honors went to 67-year-old Rick Ten Broeck, who shot rounds of 72 and 76. He enters Friday's final round T-10 at 8-over-par overall.
The biggest turnaround of the day belonged to George Glickley, who recovered from an opening-round 85 with a second-round 70 to make the cut on the number at 15-over-par 155. All in all, 38 players advanced to Friday's final round.
Final-round play will begin Friday at 8 a.m. The last group of Ryan, Pecora and Whitaker will tee off at 9:48 a.m.
