SAN JOSE, Calif. — Fresno State junior Trevor Clayton of Clovis opened with a 64 in round one of the San Jose City Championship, leading to an eventual two-shot win at Santa Teresa Golf Course over Isaiah Salinda.
Clayton, the 2014 NCGA Valley Amateur winner, posted 72 on Sunday to capture the victory, though Salinda's final-round 67 put some pressure on Clayton, who entered the day with a two-shot lead over Skyler Finnell. Finnell dropped down to a tie for sixth after 75 on Sunday.
Tying for third place were Kevin Velo and Ben Peters at 139, with Velo posting 69-70 and Peters carding rounds of 70 and 69.
In the Senior division, it was Neil Duffy firing a final-round 69 to win by three over Rich Rowley, while in the Super Senior division, Tom Lyons beat out Jim Welsh by two strokes.
