Josh Wick wins Columbus Amateur

GROVE CITY, Ohio — Ohio State sophomore Josh Wick defeated Iowa State junior Jack Carter 3-and-1 on Thursday in the Columbus Amateur championship match.
Wick, the 5-seed from Upper Arlington, Ohio, beat University of West Virginia golfer Jon Ransone on the 18th hole on Thursday morning to advance to the afternoon's finale. Carter, the 2-seed from Columbus, found himself in the final match after handing medalist and No. 1 seed Alex Weiss a 4-and-3 defeat in the semifinals.
Weiss, a sophomore at Marshall University, shot a six-under 66 at Oakhurst Country Club to grab the top seed. Carter fired 68 to earn the second seed while Wick tied for fourth at two-under 70.
The top 32 players reached match play, and the cut fell at four-over 76 with a four-for-three playoff taking place on Monday to fill the final qualifying spots.
