Michael Fastert wins Will County Amateur in Illinois
CRETE, Ill. — Michael Fastert, of Des Plaines, Ill., shot two-under 70 in the final round at Balmoral Woods to win the Will County Amateur by a stroke.
The first-round lead was shared by three players at one-under 71, but all three shot 79 or over on day two to drop outside of the top-five. John Wright of Aurora, Ill., Ryan Herter of Shorewood, Ill., and Joe Strabutenas of Crown Point, Ind. were the day one leaders. Wright's finish in a tie for 10th was best among the trio.
Fastert opened with 74 but got it going early in round two with four birdies in his first 12 holes, to go along with zero bogeys. Though he went two-over his last six, Fastert still held on for a one-shot win over Paul Dagys of Bolingbrook, who posted a final-round 71, and Glenn Przybylski of Frankfort.
