Keith Unikel surges to lead at Middle Atlantic Amateur

ROCKVILLE, Md. (Oct. 4, 2014) — Keith Unikel was hanging around the top of the leaderboard at the halfway point of the Middle Atlantic Amateur. He trailed second-round leader Alex Hoffman, a former golfer at the University of Memphis, by one shot entering Saturday's round.
Hoffman, who opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 69, shot 76 on Saturday, falling back into a tie for fifth — seven shots behind. Unikel took advantage, shooting 68 in the third round.
He leads Michael McGowan and Ben Warnquist by three shots entering the final round at Manor Country Club. The duo in second were also tied for second after Friday's round, as they both shot 71 on Saturday.
First-round leader and local Baltimore area high schooler Bennett Buch continued to struggle after his opening-round 66, shooting 75-77 in the following rounds.
