Hargett wins both Utah Mid-Amateur and Masters titles
SPRINGVILLE CITY, Utah (August 30, 2014) — Going onto the last hole at Hobble Creek Golf Course the three leading players in the UGA Mid-Am, Masters tournament were deadlocked and all three were playing in the same group.
In essence, that last hole was the first hole of a sudden death playoff between Jason Hargett, Jeff Jolley, and Robbie Fillmore.
Hargett hit driver, 4-iron to the green on the par five hole, and sank a delicate 20-foot side hill breaking putt for eagle to win the championship. He was a double winner in that he has just turned 40 and so he won both the Mid-Am and Masters title.
Except for the time he won a million dollars in a hole-in-one contest the Mid-Am, Masters title is the biggest of his career. His brother, Brandon, who has won numerous championships including the Art City Amateur, finished ninth. The Hargett boys hail from Springville and they have now both won major amateur tournaments on their favorite course.
It was Robbie Fillmore’s best performance since becoming more involved in amateur golf recently. He played collegiate golf at BYU and has been focusing on family and career since then.
