New Hampshire Players: Leavitt tops Kohler
NEWBURY, NEW HAMPSHIRE (June 2, 2014) - Joe Leavitt shot an even par 72 at Baker Hill Golf Club on Sunday to edge Ryan Kohler by one shot winning the 2014 New Hampshire Golf Association’s Players Invitational. The victory is Leavitt’s second consecutive having taken last week’s Tournament of Champions.
Coming off his four under par first round and a two shot lead, Leavitt, who was paired with Kohler on Sunday, saw his lead cut to one shot after Kohler birdied the par four ninth. The lead was gone after Kohler made a birdie on the 12th while Leavitt was making pars on 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Leavitt’s lead went back to two strokes after Kohler made bogeys on the 13th and 14th. There was a two shot swing on the 15th as Kohler made birdie four and Leavitt made bogey evening the score with three holes to play.
Leavitt righted the ship with a birdie at the 16th to Kohler’s par to pull one ahead. An unfortunate bogey at the par 3-17th by Kohler put Leavitt, who made par, up two with only the par 4 finishing to play.
Kohler made it interesting with a birdie on the 18th hole but Leavitt, who was steady all weekend, made his par to hang on to a one shot victory.
Jake Nutter shot his second consecutive even par 72 to finish third while Connor Greenleaf posted a Sunday one under par to jump into fourth.
David Larrivee, who was only two shots behind Leavitt at the beginning of play on Sunday shot a 78 to fall to fifth place. Two back nine double bogeys on the 10th and 17th were his undoing.
Damon Salo playing out of the Shattuck Golf Club posted the only other under par round on Sunday with a one under 71 to get him a T-8.
