KC Match Play: Bartimus tops Weems
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 11, 2014) -- No. 13 seed Phil Bartimus rode solid play all the way to the 2014 Kansas City Match Play title.
Bartimus, who took the 13th seed during stroke-play qualifying, knocked off No. 11 Josh Weems, 1-up, in Sunday's finale at Swope Memorial. Bartimus had reached the championship match with a 5-and-4 win over top seed Hank Sampson in the morning semifinals.
Weems, meanwhile, needed 20 holes to advance past No. 15 Cy Monitz to reach the title match.
The championship was put on hold Saturday during quarterfinal action with severe weather threatening the area.
