McCain maintains lead entering final round at St. Augustine Amateur
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Oct. 19, 2013) — Day 2 at The St. Augustine Amateur is in the books. As the wind picked up and the course dried out, the scores are getting higher.
Finishing Day 1 with 14 rounds under par, that number was cut in half on Day 2 with only 7 sub-par rounds.
Included in the bunch once again is Andrew McCain, the current leader at 8-under par.
“I just didn’t make as many putts as yesterday and that limited my birdies,” said McCain.
Two bogeys on the card with a 3-putt on #12 were really his only mistakes. He did have a little redemption on #9 as he drove the ball right in the trees again, but still had a chance to lay up and get it with in 3 feet of the hole.
“Tomorrow will be a challenge, but I’m looking forward to it.” stated Mccain.
Andres Halvorsen is two shots back following a second-round 67 that allowed him to jump on the leaderboard. He’ll enter the final round as one of McCain’s few competitors, sitting four shots back. Michael Balzer sits at 3-under par following his 69 on Saturday.
