BEALLSVILLE, Md. (Oct. 9, 2013) -- The streaky Joe Scheffres brought occasional four-ball partner Nathan Sugar out of semi-retirement and the two combined for a six-under par 65 at Four Streams to score a relatively easy win in the 2013 WMGA Four-Ball. Scheffres had established his low-scoring pedigree with Middle Atlantic Amateur tournament rounds of 63 at Baltimore Country Club in 2012 and 66 at Kinloch this past weekend.
Sugar birdied hole #s 4, 8 and 9 while Scheffres birdied the tough 7th hole. The only blemish was a bogey on #3 as the pair turned in 33.
On the incoming nine, Scheffres birdied 10, 17 and 18 while Sugar saved par on four holes as the team close with another three-under par nine.
Three strokes back in second place were the teams of Mike Brennan (River Creek) and Steve Castro (Glenn Dale), scoring 34-34, and Joe Zdrojewski and Chuck Thatcher (36-32) of Beaver Creek.
In a logjam at 69 were the teams of Tracy Vallandingham and Kevin Burch (Breton Bay with 34-35), Tim Kane and David Hughes (Bethesda with 34-35), Michael Calkin (UMD) and Michael Kelly (Mount Vernon) with 34-35 and Don Phattiyakul (RedGate) and Kevin Rizzotte with 35-34.
Other low scorers were defenders Steve Ligi and Bernie Deane (Beaver Creek at 37-33--70), Lee Flemister (Blue Mash) and Troy Miller (Lake Presidential) with 34-36--70, Dan Lesando and Danny Ott (Hidden Creek) with 33-37--70, Rick Peel (Westwood) and Kevin Seekford (Trump National DC) with 36-35--71 and Rob Menefee and Joel Manion (Belle Haven) with 35-36--71.
