Schenk is medalist at North and South Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C. (June 4, 2013) — Purdue's Adam Schenk won medalist honors at the North and South Amateur Championship on Thursday at 10 under 203 at Pinehurst Country Club after a final round 4-under 67, three shots clear of the field.
Michael McGowan, the son of Champions Tour player Pat McGowan and grandson of golf legend Peggy Kirk Bell, tied for fourth at 5 under. McGowan will be a senior at North Carolina.
Kent State’s Corey Connors and Duke’s verbal commit Adam Wood were tied for the lead after 36-holes, but finished in a tie for second at 7 under.
Ben Griffin continues his hot streak from last week’s Dogwood Invitational, tied for fourth at 5 under.
The top 16 players advanced to match play. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played at Pinehurst No. 2 on Friday, with the semifinals and the championship match decided on Saturday.

The North & South Amateur Championship is the
longest consecutively run amateur tournament in
the
United States. Its past winners list includes names
like
Walter
Travis, Francis Ouimet, Billy Joe Patton, Jack
Nicklaus
and Curtis Strange. The field is made up of invited
players as well as open applications. Two rounds of
stroke
play are followed by five rounds of match play
(32
qualifiers) to determine the Champion. All stroke
& match play rounds are contested on
Pinehurst No. 2.
