The Lakes at Castle Hills was designed by Jay
Morrish and opened for play in 1999. The course is
one of the best public layouts in the region, and is
known for its excellent course conditions. Castle Hills
has proven itself as a championship test, having
hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School and U.S.
Open Qualifying. The greens are smooth and true,
allowing the hot putter to make a lot of putts. But
the course defends itself with trees, native areas and
a variety of streams and lakes. There are plenty of
outstanding holes, but none tougher than the
opening two, a 479-yard par-4 followed by the 371-
yard 2nd with its thrilling diagonal tee shot over the
lake. The practice facilities include a 510-yard
double-ended driving range, multiple practice
bunkers and putting greens, and three regulation-
sized practice holes.
