Noll takes lead at Georgia Mid-Am
SAVANNAH, Ga. --- Two-time and defending champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton posted a 4-under-par 67 to take over the lead after 36 holes of the 32nd annual Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship, taking place at The Savannah Golf Club. Cameron Hooper of Atlanta sits in second, trailing Noll by two strokes (68-72).

Two-time past champion Jeff Knox of Augusta and Jeff Belk of Marietta are tied for third at 1-under 141.

Noll carded an even-par 71 in Friday's opening round with a relatively quiet round of two birdies and two pars, but had a little more action in Saturday's round. Starting on 10, Noll posted four birdies and three bogeys on his outward nine. His inward nine was bogey-free with birdies on Nos. 2 (504 yards), 4 (165 yards) and 6 (326 yards) for his 4-under 67.

Entries were open to male amateur golfers who were GSGA members, Georgia residents and age 25 or older as of May 17.

Play was suspended at 5:05 p.m. for 43 minutes due to thunder and lightning in the area.

At the conclusion of Saturday's round, the field was cut to the low 70 and ties for Sunday's final 18. The cutline fell at 14-over-par 156 with 74 players advancing.

The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The final group of Noll, Hooper and Belk will tee off from No. 1 at 10:30.
