North West Amateur: Mowat takes it by 1
CARLETONVILLE, S. Africa (March 25, 2013) -- At the North West Open Stroke Play Championship it came down to the last round to determine the winner and Callum Mowat of Modderfontein managed to win the championship with a total of 14-under, 274.
In second place was Werner van Niekerk of Wingate Golf Club on a total of 275. They were followed by Tertius van den Berg from Pretoria Country Club and Haydn Porteous at 276.
One hundred and thirty eight players started the Championship on Friday and played 18 holes on Friday followed by another 18 holes on Saturday. A cut was made after the second round and the top sixty players proceeded to play 36 holes on Sunday. The cut was at 249, five over par and 60 players competed in the third an forth rounds.
The event was played at Orkney Golf Club in the North West Province. Some of the best amateur golfers in South Africa competed for the trophy, which has been won by some of the biggest names in South African Golf.
