England takes European Nations Championship
SOTOGRANDE, Spain (March 18, 2013) -- The English team of Nathan Kimsey, Garric Porteous, Toby Tree and Max Orrin combined to win the top prize at the 2013 European Nations Cup at Real Club de Sotogrande.
The English received terrific final-round efforts from Porteous (69), Tree (71) and Orrin (68) to upend France by six shots. The French held a two-shot lead entering the final round of competition thanks to strong play throughout by team members Thomas Elissalde, Roman Langasque, Pierre Mazier and Adrien Saddier.
Alan Dunbar, Dermot Mcelroy, Rory McNamara and Reeve Whitson joined to lead Ireland to a third-place finish.
The European Nations Cup in a 72-hole international competition with the top three scores from each four-member team making up the team score each round.
Maximilian Roehrig and Saddier from France shared the individual title. Roehrig was solid throughout, firing rounds of 72-68-72-71. His 1-under 71 in the final round kept pace with Saddier, who shot 72-70-67-74 to share the top individual honors.
