Porteous wins South African Stroke Play
GEORGE, South Africa (Feb. 15, 2013) -- Haydn Porteous, the No. 4 player in the Golfweek/amateurgolf.com World Rankings, completed a masterful performance to take home the top prize at the 2013 South African Stroke Play at Oubaai Golf Club.
Porteous shot rounds of 69-67-70-69 to total 13-under.
It's the second straight title in his country's stroke play championship for Porteous, who also has won Prince's Grant Amateur and the Boland Amateur Open in the last year.
Porteous held off second-round leader Werner Ferreira for a two-shot victory. Ferreira matched Porteous with a final-round 69 but it wasn't enough to overcome the two-time champion.
Alejandro Tosti was third, three shots behind the leader.
Brady Watt, who has made plenty of news with his red-hot play in Australia this year, finished alone in fourth place.
