Calif. Women's Am: Yin, Cathrea, Cowan take Top 3 match play spots
Casie Cathrea
CARMEL, Calif. (Nov. 7, 2012) -- Angel Yin stormed
back in Round 2 of stroke-play qualifying to take
medalist honors and the top seed heading into match
play at the 2012 California Women's Amateur
Championship at Quail Lodge Golf Club.
Yin opened with a 77 and trailed first-round leader
Casie Cathrea by four shots. A second-round 69 ---
the lowest mark during qualifying --- was enough to
propel her to a two-shot medal.
Cathrea, the Livermore prodigy, early Oklahoma State
golf commit and member of the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup
Team, followed her first-round 73 with a 75 in Round
2 and tied for second place with amateurgolf.com's
own Lynne Cowan, of Davis.
When match play begins Thursday, Cathrea will be the
No. 2 seed and face the 31st seed, Amanda Nealey.
Cowan took the No. 3 seed and will have her hands
full with Heidi Ushijima of Hillsborough. Both players
advanced to match play at the US Women's Mid-Am
last month and lost close matches. Complete match
play seedings

play qualifying results are available at the link below.
