SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 28, 2012) -- Eric Taylor started the day one stroke behind his twin brother Owen in the San Diego City Championship, after a 69 at Balboa Park on Friday. He finished the day 2 shots in front of his brother and two other players, and a single shot ahead of 2010 city champ Stephen Kearney after a 2-under 70 at Torrey Pines North.

"It could have been lower," said Taylor after the round. "I pretty much had 15 feet for birdie all day and I went for the green on No. 18 when I shouldn't have, hit a tree and finished with a bogey."

Indeed, Taylor probably gave a shot or two to the Championship field there, but with the North course still sporting some healthy Junior World rough, especially around the greens, a 70 was a solid round.

The Taylors, twins from San Juan Capistrano, will be sophomores at Sacramento State where they play on the golf team.

In the Women's division Devon Brown of Rancho Santa Fe leads by four strokes despite failing to find the same magic that led to a 3-under 69 on Friday. Brown, who will be a junior at Northwestern University, carded a 78 on Saturday and leads Hillary Packard and Kimberly Johnson by 4 strokes.

Frank Merhar continues to pace the Senior Division after adding a 2-over 74 to his first round of 72. Dan Pouliot of the Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank made up some ground by matching the day's low senior score of 73 on the North (John Phillips also did it) -- he is two back at 148.

Sunday's final round is a 7:00am shotgun on the host course of the 2008 U.S. Open, the challenging Torrey Pines South Course.
