Northern Am: Mullinax goes low in win

CHESTERTON, Ind. (July 27, 2012) -- Trey Mullinax, Mt. Olive, Ala., posted a final round 9-under-par 63 to win the Northern Amateur by a single stroke over Brian Campbell of Irvine, Calif.
Mullinax, a sophomore at the NCAA Div. I Champion Univ. of Alabama, started the day 7 back of 36-hole leader Robert Bell, Pierz, Minn., and promptly birdied his first four holes. After a par on the par-4 fifth hole, Mullinax reeled of three more birdies to sign for a 29. With birdies on holes No. 10, No. 12, and No. 15 and a lone bogey on hole No. 14 it would all add up to 63, a new course record at the Sand Creek Golf Club and a win for Mullinax.
Brian Campbell, Irvine, Calif., carded 70-69-68--207 to finish one stroke back and in sole possession of second place.
Four players tied for third with 8-under 208's while the second round leader carded a 74 on the final day and finished T8.
