United High School student Emiliano Martinez became the youngest winner in the 22-year Laredo Open golf history at the Laredo Country Club. The 16-year-old Martinez captured the championship flight with a 74-72 – 146. The largest field ever – 172 golfers –competed. Martinez won by four strokes over Jonathan Swisher, last year’s District 29-5A champion from Alexander, now a freshman playing for TAMIU.
