Patrick Christovich
AVONDALE, LA (June 9, 2012) -- Half the field in the 93rd edition of the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship had to restart their second round at 7:30 this morning. On a weekend that has seen some tempestuous southern Louisiana weather, the players were granted possibly the best weather since the first tee shot was hit Thursday morning at TPC Louisiana. Patrick Christovich took advantage of the ideal scoring conditions, firing five birdies and one bogey. His second round 68, coupled with his first round 71, was enough to put the New Orleans native atop the leaderboard after two rounds with a five-under par 139.
Other players finishing their 2nd round this morning include John Talley of St. Martinville, who is currently tied for 4th after shooting a superb 69, bringing his total to 141. Brandon Aydlett of Metairie, who began the 2nd round at two-under par, shot a consistent even par 72 today. He is currently in sixth place.
After the completion of round 2, the cut was made for the top 60 and ties. The cut line was 151, and 65 players are still around for the weekend. There was a suspension of play at 2:45, and the players would not return to the golf course. Throughout this rain soaked event, players have been patient and understanding of the conditions that are out of their control.
Weather permitting, Sunday’s play will start at 7:30. The goal is to play as many holes as the weather allows. Although Sunday’s forecast is grim, the golf course drains extremely well, and the maintenance crew is first class, so the golf course will be able to withstand more of the rain that is to come. However, If 72 holes cannot be completed, the champion will be the 54 holes leader, and if 54 holes cannot be completed, the champion will be the leader after 36 holes.
