Daan Huizing - who else? - leads St. Andrews Links Trophy
Daan Huizing
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (June 8, 2012) -- Flying Dutchman Daan Huizing took the lead after the first round of the St Andrews Links Trophy with an excellent score of six under par on the New Course.
Huizing led by four after birdies at the 3rd, 7th, 12th and 13th holes and an eagle at the 8th helped him card a 65 in cold and windy conditions. He said, "Putting is the strong part of my game. Today I hit all the par 5s in two and made a lot of good up and downs. I have learned to control the ball in the wind by relaxing and developing better distance control. I won at Lytham but it was not as windy as here. This year is the best I've ever played."
The 21 year-old's playing partners were also in contention with South African Brandon Stone posting a two under par 69 and Graeme Robertson from Glenbervie one shot further back after a 70. Also on two under par were Paul Kinnear from Formby, Ben Stow from Rushmore, Jamie Rutherford from Knebworth and Northern Ireland's Reeve Whitson.
