Normandie Amateur: Frost wins it
St. Louis, MO. (May 20, 2012) -- Dr. Andy
Frost hit a small bump on the first hole at
Normandie GC Saturday morning, but then a
string of four birdies from Holes 2-5 pushed a 1
shot lead to 4 en route to his victory in the
26th Normandie Amateur. At age 52, Frost
becomes the first senior to win the Normandie
outright. Senior points are awarded to the
field toward the MAGA Senior Player of the
Year, but with this victory Frost also makes an
early statement for an invite to the MAGA
Match Play Championship in 2013.
Playing
in the final group with 4-time champion Skip
Berkmeyer and Tony Gumper. Frost had the
one early hiccup at the tough 443 yard
opening hole at Normandie. Quickly though, he
sunk a long birdie putt on 2 and hit it to 6-feet
on 3 for birdies. At the short par 5 4th hole,
Frost chipped in for a birdie then finish the 4
hole stretch with a short birdie putt at 5.
Four players would end up under par for the
Championship. Berkmeyer, 2011 Senior MAGA
Player of the Year Jeff Johnson and Tony
Gumper.
