Calef cruises to victory at Texas North Mid-Am
Irving, TX (March 25, 2012) – With three days of not a cloud in the sky and very calm winds, weather could not have been any better for the North Mid-Amateur Championship. Old American Golf Club played host and did an amazing job in getting the course playable after a week of pouring rain. After three days Mike Calef was able to separate himself from the field and claim a four shot victory and his first TGA championship.
Mike Calef has only been in Texas for a few months after moving from the Boston area, but he has already made a name for himself. Calef has only played in two TGA championships, and added this victory to a runner-up finish in the North Four-Ball earlier this year. Mike Calef had a four shot lead entering the final round, and with no one making a charge he was able to cruise to victory. With rounds of 70-68-72, Calef was the only player under par for the week.
Brandon Scott fired a final round of one under par 70 to finish alone in second place at one over par for the week. This is Scott’s second consecutive runner-up finish in this championship. Colby Harwell had a consistent week with rounds of 70-72-73 to finish in third place. Defending champion Aaron Hickman struggled with a final round of 75 to finish in a tie for fourth place.
