Heisey/Poyser fire 11-under 60 at SCGA Four Ball Qualifier
DOVE CANYON, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2011) -- There may be "no pictures on the scorecard" but the card posted by Ryan Heisey and Justin Poyser today at the Dove Canyon SCGA Four Ball Qualifier is worth looking at a picture of. Just to see how nice the card looks with all those red numbers.
On a day when Dove Canyon was toughened by heavily over-seeded (and very healthy) rough, the Heisey and Poyser team went around with eleven birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey. "We made a lot of putts," remarked 2010 North Carolina State Amateur Champion Heisey, a relative newcomer to California after the round.
In fact, the two shared the birdie-making very evenly, and only "doubled-up" on one hole. Heisey had an eagle (the par-5 1st, their team's 10th) and 5 birdies, while his partner Poyser posted 6 birdies of his own.
The pair just met when introduced by friends a couple of weeks ago.
Heisey -- who played for North Carolina Greensboro -- is ranked No. 255 in the World and 118 in the U.S. in the 2011 Golfweek/amateurgolf.com Rankings Player-of-the-Year points race based on finishing runner up at the Rice Planters Amateur, 20th at the Sahalee Players, and T21 at the Azalea Amateur. His 2010 North Carolina Amateur win set a tournament record of 11-under 269.
Today's 60 was 5 strokes clear of the 65 posted by D.J. Fernando and the long hitting Greg Lopez. Other qualifying sites include Carlton Oaks in Santee (Oct. 14), and Rustic Canyon in Moorpark (Oct. 20). Full results can be found in the tournaments section at www.scga.org.
The SCGA Four Ball will be contested at Bakersfield Country Club on Nov. 14-15, 2011.
